The leadership of Ukraine expresses deep concern over the situation in the European Union in regard of the mass migration from the Middle East and North Africa countries. Ukraine highly appreciates the significant contribution of the EU to our country in so difficult times and in its turn is ready to render assistance to the European partners in solution of the migration crisis and to provide our territory for refugees’ settlement.
On behalf of the President of Ukraine and in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Refugees and Persons in need of Complementary or Temporary Protection in Ukraine”, the State Migration Service of Ukraine assesses the national capacity to receive displaced persons and in cooperation with other authorities conducts preparatory activities to retrofit border checkpoints and to build camps for temporary settlement.
Besides, the State Migration Service of Ukraine began the consultations with our European partners and the representatives from the international humanitarian organizations to specify requirements concerning the documents that are necessary to receive migrants as well as data on the number of migrants who can arrive in Ukraine.
Ukraine guarantees full respect for the rights and freedoms of migrants in accordance with the UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951, and the Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees of 1967.
We sincerely hope that the efforts of Ukraine will help our partners from the EU to cope with the crisis and will become one more step towards the integration of our country into the common European family.
